Stylehouse 512 recently worked with Marisa White of White Sparks Photography on a promotional photoshoot. She is a San Antonio based photographer who is a blast to work with! She makes her clients feel so at ease and we were laughing through most of the shoot, especially when she busted out her iphone with some great 90's dance hits. We will be showcasing some of her work on the blog during the upcoming weeks, it really is stunning. We asked Marisa to tell us more about her background and her style:
Marisa is the black sheep of the family. Coming from a world where most of her relatives are all Science majors, Marisa pushed the outer limits by picking up a paintbrush or prismacolor instead of a copy of the periodic table or a test tube. She doodled on her notes in class and attended art school all throughout childhood and college. It was later when her father bought her a Nikon for her birthday that she traded that paintbrush for a camera.
Despite all her creativity, Marisa’s mother feared her daughter would be “selling her artwork on the side of the road.” So she minored in business and after opportunity knocked (and you shouldn’t ignore opportunity) she became the proud owner of a payroll processing business in 2006. (Say what?) Proving that, yes, artists CAN do math. (But they don’t necessarily like it.)
During that time, her creative side found other outlets photographing just about anything and everything in sight. Vacations proved challenging for her friends and family as she always remained 500 feet behind the rest of the group viewing the world behind the lens and slowing down the party. So after much encouragement from her husband, dubbed – Captain Awesome, she sold her business to pursue her second love…photography.
Thus launched White Sparks Photography, late 2011. Modern and creative, Marisa photographs families, seniors, kiddos and models. Her style is a splash of color paired with a vibrant pop. A fun, quirky personality topped with a slight edge. Charisma.
Her fashion style is laid back and easy going, just the way her clients describe her ease with people during shoots. “It’s hard to crawl around on the floor or hike up a ladder in heels while photographing toddlers!” Her favorite attire rings true with most as nothing beats a good pair of jeans and a tank top with some flip flops! However, for a night on the town, she likes to wow it up with a rockin’ red dress. Her motto, “You can still look cool and be comfortable!”
